Ladies and Gentleman, I present the new reason to subscribe to HBO (or to love PSN if you are gamer)
This is not your Grandfather's Fantasy story. If you have not read George RR Martin's brilliant work on his "Game of Thrones" series stop whatever it is that you are doing right now and go purchase or borrow "A Song of Fire and Ice" from your local bookstore or library . It is not hyperbole to say that Mr. RR Martin has written the definitive Adult Fantasy novel. He has created characters that have real depth to them and has for the most part avoided the traditional fantasy tropes of his peers. Imagine, if you will, the great characters and deep intertwined plotlines of "the Wire" in a fantasy setting.
George RR Martin has been heavily invloved in the filming of this series and they have gathered tremendous talent for the production (Sean Bean, Peter Dinklage, Lean Headly). Ok, maybe tremendous talent is a bit of a stretch but the talent is legit. You won't find Debbie Gibson or some Victoria Secret model in the cast( I am looking at you Syfy channel and Transformers 3). The only cloud on this parade of awesomesauce is that we must wait until Spring of 2011. We have to wait until spring... for winter to come? C'mon HBO! That is a missed marketing opportunity in my humble opinion. Here's hoping that someone decides that Winter should come this winter.
